David Adomako-Ansah is a 23-year-old student attending NAIT’s Radio and Television Broadcasting program. Born in Edmonton’s Charles Camsell Hospital to Ghanaian immigrants Anthony Adomako-Ansah and Elizabeth Opoku, he arrived June 14th, 1989 along with his twin sister Sarah. His older brother Daniel and little sister Samantha complete the family tree. At an early age, Adomako-Ansah loved writing. He would write and illustrate his own books starring himself in make-believe worlds, saving the world time-and-time again. Reading was a different story, until his sister Sarah introduced him to the Harry Potter Series. Adomako-Ansah graduated Archbishop Macdonald high school in 2007. In 2006, he was diagnosed with lupus. Because of the disease, he received a ventricular assist device called an EXCOR Berlin Heart in April of 2007, and on February 22nd, 2009, he received a heart transplant. Being sick inspired Adomako-Ansah to start a non-profit organization in 2008 called Dunk On Disease. DOD gives back to the Stollery Children’s Hospital, the place that saved his life. To date, over $10,000 has been raised for the facility. This is something he takes much pride in. Once Adomako-Ansah finishes his time at NAIT, he hopes to be a medical reporter. When he isn’t writing a story for the school newspaper or the six o’clock news, Adomako-Ansah writes for fun. His love of music is also very evident. Facebook, Twitter, Friends, Family and TV shows like Community, How I Met Your Mother and Modern Family take up the rest of his time. You can catch David on NAIT NewsWatch on CTV2 at 6pm every Saturday.
