Course: BA Journalism Favorite Book: "1Q84" by Haruki Murakami It took me months to finish this book, which is actually a trilogy. But all the time I spent reading it was not wasted because the book did not disappoint. A thrilling telling of two lovers separated at a young age, only to be reunited at the unlikeliest of circumstances. 1Q84 is set at a dystopian Tokyo wherein two moons watch over its residents. One thing I like most about this novel and probably every other novel I have grown to love, is that it never runs out of cliff hangers, suspenseful chases and a good set of despicable villains. By the time I was nearing the end, I found myself almost living in it, rooting for the heroine and half-wishing the bad guys would just stop going after them--even if it is almost impossible. Favorite Film: "The Devil Wears Prada" (2006) Dir. David Frankel My feel-good flick. I never get tired of watching it over and over, yet it still gets me each time as if I were seeing it for the first time. I have first seen this movie when I was in grade school, Andrea Sachs has since influenced me to enroll in my college program today. It is hard to not get caught (jealous) in all the glitz of the job she has, but by the time you get to the last few minutes, you get this sordid realization that none of it really matters, and that is the catch to it all; getting over the "job every girl would kill over" without remorse. Favorite Media Practitioner: Jessica Soho I have spent countless weekends watching her show and wanting to be her half the time. She is a seasoned journalist. I admire the fact that she has covered almost everything in her entire career, from the war zones in the middle east to the humble homes of of native fellow Filipinos all over the country. The fact that she was an alumna of the college is, if anything, a cherry on top. Favorite Song: "What A Catch, Donnie" by Fall Out Boy Right before entering college I have gotten into bands, found myself in countless concerts right out of high school, singing, screaming and trying to keep my cool (because I am meeting my favorite bands in person) in between. This song is one of the few songs I to listen to when I am travelling, when I am alone in my dorm room and when I am with friends. I really love a good mellow tune because it gives me a kind of break from pop songs. Plus, I would like to believe, that somehow, this song is referring to the film, "Donnie Darko" (2001), a personal favorite. Favorite Meal: My mother's adobo My mother is barely at home most of the time and when she is with us, we always look forward to the meals she prepares. Her adobo is easily one of my favorites because of its hint of sweetness as if there were barely vinegar in it. Plus she prepares it in under 20 minutes! Hobbies: Going through my various social media feeds; watching TV series I downloaded online; listening to alternative rock bands and pop songs; thrift shopping; reading mystery/thriller/young adult novels
